MS Dhoni smashes 29* of 17 balls
Making a return to cricket in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after 14 months, MS Dhoni only made a brief appearance in Chennai Super Kings’ first fixture versus Mumbai Indians facing just two balls, but last night saw the 39-year-old turn back the clock smashing 29 runs from 17 balls versus Rajasthan Royals, including three back-to-back sixes in the final over. Despite a minimal chance of winning, with 38 runs needed in the final over, Dhoni’s innings helped Chennai Super Kings touch the 200-runs mark. From the three towering sixes, one ball landed outside the Sharjah Cricket Stadium until a lucky fan grabbed it and was seen walking away with it.
Rajasthan Royals win by 16 runs
Thanks to a quick-fire knock of 74(32) by Sanju Sampson and Steve Smith playing a captain’s innings of 69(47), the duo help Rajasthan Royals amass a mammoth score of 216. Chennai Super Kings responded with Faf Du Plesis scoring 72(37) and Shane Watson’s 33(21) but were 16 runs short of the run chase.
