Traffic in Abu Dhabi drew to a standstill last afternoon after a motorist sped on a highway neglecting an upcoming traffic and crashed into about six cars across three lanes.
Little is known about the motorist’s condition prior to the accident, but CCTV footage shows the motorist was speeding in a Lexus SUV ahead of a traffic jam and eventually rammed into a sedan on the first lane and swerved off to the next lane crashing into an SUV and a hatchback, ending with another crash into another SUV before stopping on the hard shoulder. Abu Dhabi Police said the motorist has been fined AED 800, in addition to four black points.
With the shocking video footage, Abu Dhabi Police warns motorists to stay alert while driving and keep away from sudden deviation such as checking notifications on their phone, clicking pictures or eating while driving. Last year saw a staggering 30,600 violations made by motorists for being distracted on the road.
