An exchange in hosting rights between the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) administration and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have drawn to a conclusion that Asia Cup will be hosted in Sri Lanka with a June 2021 slot.
Asia Cup rescheduling chaos
Tensions have been escalating between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the PCB of late, after BCCI President informally announced the Asia Cup is cancelled on an Instagram live session with ‘Sports Tak,’ saying it’s “called off” as they’re focusing of a full-fledged series by this December.
Meanwhile, Samiul Hasan Burney, Media Director of the PCB says Ganguly’s statement “do not hold weight or merit,” having “no impact on proceedings” since the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will take a call on the tournament. The 2020 edition was supposed to be held in the UAE this September, prior to the T20 World Cup.
Hosting rights swapped
PCB, hosts of the 2020 Asia Cup, recently offered SLC hosting rights in exchange with the 2022 edition at the Asian Cricket Council meeting. To which, SLC accepted, meaning Sri Lanka will host this year’s edition. They’ve also rescheduled the tournament to a June 2021 slot.

Also, Sri Lanka has had the least number of Coronavirus cases (2,094) compared to the rest of the ACC member countries. The island country is also being considered a host nation for the hotly-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL).
