Commuting is about to get easier for residents in Dubai’s outlying neighbourhoods with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) opening seven new stations connecting from the city to the Expo 2020 site.
Seven new metro stations leading to Expo 2020 site in Route 2020 Project
For anyone living in neighbourhoods after the JLT and JBR area, it goes without saying that having a car is a must for daily commute. Well, residents can give their car a break thanks to the RTA’s all-new Route 2020 Project, featuring a line-up of seven stations connecting communities like Dubai Investment Park, The Gardens, Discovery Gardens, Al Furjan and Jumeirah Golf Estates, ending at the Expo 2020 site. It’s a 15 km-long track starting from the Jebel Ali metro station.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated the project accompanied by Crown Prince His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Emirates Group Chairman His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and Chairman of Dubai Media Council, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Maktoum.

RTA estimates more than 270,000 residents will benefit from the metro extension, the population of the seven neighbourhoods combined.

It’s worth mentioning the Expo 2020 Station is built with stunning design details taking the shape of an aircraft’s wings, a symbol for “Dubai’s future drive towards greater innovation” The last stop boasts a capacity of 522,000 daily at a rate of 29,000 riders per hour in both directions.
What’s more, the station hosts a memorial inspired by the phrase “I believe in God” in Arabic, from Sheikh Mohammed’s poem, “The Beginning of the Fifty”.
